CLEVELAND, July 27, 2010 - The Case Western Reserve University Center for Reducing Health Disparities at MetroHealth Hospital, with funding support from the Saint Luke’s Foundation, has recruited Vedette Gavin, M.P.H., as its first Community Health Fellow.  Ms. Gavin will work at the Buckeye Area Development Corporation in the Buckeye/Woodland Hills/Larchmere community to facilitate collaborative, neighborhood-specific planning and action around healthy community lifestyles. 

 

Ms. Gavin comes to this position from the Safe Communities Program at the Columbus Department of Public Health.  Her professional experience reflects innovative public health program design and implementation with a strong emphasis on process and outcomes measurement.

 

“The Community Fellow will have significant opportunities to support the integration of several initiatives funded through the Saint Luke’s Foundation,” said Sandra Byrd Chappelle, senior program officer for Transformational Initiatives at the Foundation.  “The Fellow will be principally engaged in integrating our “Closing the Gap” grant to MetroHealth with our Buckeye/ Larchmere neighborhood empowerment work. Key to Ms. Gavin’s work will be the extension the Foundation’s focus on ensuring that those most affected by health disparities have a significant voice in developing initiatives to reduce them.  Efforts developed will be envisioned, initiated and sustained by community residents,” Ms. Chappelle added.

Saint Luke’s Foundation Wins Award from Council on Foundations for Excellence in Communications

CLEVELAND, April 26, 2010

 

The Saint Luke’s Foundation has been named a Silver Award winner for excellence in communications – electronic publications by the 2010 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program.  Sponsored by the prestigious Council on Foundations, the awards program recognizes effective communications to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs.

 

The Foundation received the award for its innovative 2008 online interactive annual report, which can be accessed here.  Kimberly St. John-Stevenson, the Foundation's Communications Officer, accepted the award on Mon., April 26 at the Council on Foundations’ Annual Conference in Denver.

The Board of Trustees of the Saint Luke’s Foundation has approved first quarter grants for 2010, with nineteen organizations receiving more than $1.4 milllion for safety net and basic needs organizations.

Saint Luke’s Announces New Chair, Board Members
CLEVELAND, December 18, 2009

 

Saint Luke’s Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio, has appointed several Executive Committee members to new roles for 2010, including the appointment of Thomas Rathbone as Chair, while announcing several additions to its Board of Trustees. Founded in 1997, the Saint Luke’s Foundation is committed to improving and transforming the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities throughout Greater Cleveland.

 

Rathbone, a Foundation trustee since 2005, will assume the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees. He succeeds Sandra Kiely Kolb, a former banker with National City who served as Chair for four years and will remain a trustee.

 

Douglas Wang, former Chair of the Foundation’s Investment Committee, will serve as Vice Chair and Geraldine H. Burns will be Secretary. John P. O’Brien will remain Treasurer and Chair, Finance/Audit Committee; Baiju R. Shah remains as the Chair of the Governance Committee; and Eric Von Hendrix remains as Chair of the Grant Committee.

Saint Luke’s Foundation Awards More than $1 Million in Community Grants

CLEVELAND, Oct. 13, 2009

The Saint Luke’s Foundation this week announced its Board of Trustees has approved 20 grants totaling more than $1 million in support of several of the region’s leading health and human services agencies. Ohio Association of Free Clinics Honors Foundation

Saint Luke’s Foundation Awards $776,000 in Community Grants

CLEVELAND, July 14, 2009

 

The Saint Luke’s Foundation has announced grants totaling $776,000 to several Cleveland-based health and human services organizations. A total of 13 grants were announced as part of the Foundation’s second grantmaking cycle of 2009, and half were made as general operating support in order to allow the organizations providing critical safety net services to use the funds in whatever way best supports their operations.  Fore more, click here.
