Saint Luke's Foundation gives $1 million grant for Buckeye Neighborhood CLEVELAND, November 19, 2007 The Saint Luke's Foundation will continue its investment in the Buckeye neighborhood with a $1 million grant announced today. The grant to ParkWorks, a nonprofit group that promotes civic vitality through parks and public spaces, will be used to create walking trails, an outdoor reading garden, public-art displays and performance areas for community residents. The Board of Trustees of the Saint Luke’s Foundation has approved its first quarter grants for 2010, with 19 organizations receiving more than $1.4 milllion for safety net and basic needs organizations. “On the heels of the enactment of healthcare reform in America, many of the grants awarded in the first quarter respond to the needs of the under-insured and medically underserved in our community,” said Denise San Antonio Zeman, President and CEO of Saint Luke’s Foundation. “While providing healthcare to those in need is front-page news across the country, it has always been a major focus of our mission as we strive to transform the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities,” Zeman added. Unique fellowship opportunity now available CLEVELAND, February 24, 2010
The Case Center for Reducing Health Disparities at MetroHealth, in partnership with the Saint Luke’s Foundation of Cleveland, seeks a full time Community Health Fellow. The Community Health Fellow will work in the Buckeye/Woodland Hills/Larchmere community to facilitate collaborative, neighborhood-specific planning and action around healthy community lifestyles to improve indicators of health and well-being in the community.
The fellowship is the newest transformational initiative in the Saint Luke's Foundation's grant portfolio.
Working with an advisory team, the Community Health Fellow will develop infrastructure to design new or enhanced strategies to engage and empower the community to identify, plan and implement actions around healthy lifestyles, leveraging existing programs in the community. This unique position will receive joint supervision and mentoring by Center for Reducing Health Disparities faculty and Saint Luke’s Foundation staff. The position is funded by a three-year grant.

Foundation Awards Special In-Kind Grant for Rent CLEVELAND, November 12, 2009
The Saint Luke’s Foundation has announced a special in-kind grant – office space until the end of 2012 – to The Center for Community Solutions’ Family Health Team. This grant comes in addition to the 20 previously announced third quarter grants totaling over $1 million and supplements the Foundation’s efforts to provide critical support and services to the region’s nonprofit agencies during this time of economic hardship. The funds, which will support agencies’ operating, capacity and program efforts, were awarded as part of the Foundation’s third grantmaking cycle of 2009. In the interest of "going green," the Saint Luke’s Foundation has chosen to use an interactive electronic format for its annual report. We decided to do this for a number of reasons:

Saint Luke’s Foundation awards $776,000 in community grants CLEVELAND, July 14, 2009
The Saint Luke’s Foundation has announced grants totaling $776,000 to several Cleveland-based health and human services organizations. A total of 13 grants were announced as part of the Foundation’s second grantmaking cycle of 2009, and half were made as general operating support in order to allow the organizations providing critical safety net services to use the funds in whatever way best supports their operations. Federal Grants aim to strengthen nonprofits WASHINGTON, D.C. May 18, 2009 The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced $50 million in grant funding is now available through the Strengthening Communities Fund, a new fund created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. HHS will grant two-year awards of up to $1 million to strengthen nonprofit and faith-based organizations that aid struggling families and communities in the economic downturn. Grantees must provide at least 20 percent of the total approved cost of the project from non-federal funds. For more information, click here.
Senior Outreach Services brings new life to historic facility CLEVELAND, OH May 10, 2009 In 2007, Senior Outreach Services (SOS) came to the Saint Luke's Foundation with a capacity-building request to provide technical assistance to the organization in the areas of financial planning and new construction planning. SOS was working to renovate an Andrew Carnegie Library in the Fairfax Neighborhood in partnership with the Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation. The site would ultimately become the home for the Senior Outreach Services Wellness Center serving mature adults and their families in Fairfax and surrounding neighborhoods.

Over $1.2 million in new grants announced Saint Luke’s Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio, has announced grants in its third grantmaking cycle for 2008, awarding over $1.2 million to 23 Cleveland-area organizations. This final grantmaking cycle of the year focused strongly on supporting housing and children services, underscoring the Foundation’s mission to improve and transform the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities throughout Greater Cleveland. MyCom program focuses on youth development A new initiative has been launched in Greater Cleveland that will provide various programs and tools to help Greater Cleveland’s children become productive and self-sustaining adults. The program is called MyCom: My Commitment. My Community. Under MyCom, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, Center for Community Solutions, Partnership for a Safer Cleveland, Starting Point, Voices for Ohio’s Children, and Youth Opportunities Unlimited will provide jobs for teenagers, out-of-school activities and help for children as they transition to higher grade levels, such as from middle school to high school. Towards a Healthier Cleveland: MetroHealth partners with WZAK 93.1-FM for national health observance Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling R&B singer Eric Benet and 93.1 WZAK are joining forces with MetroHealth to encourage Clevelanders to take better care of their health at a special community health fair. Free health screenings will be held at the MetroHealth Buckeye Health Center (2816 East 116th St.) on Tuesday, September 16 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Local radio personality Kim Johnson will broadcast live during the event. Government too costly? According to Crain's Cleveland Business, among all the data in the Cost of Government Study for Northeast Ohio released July 14 by the Fund for Our Economic Future, two numbers stand out. The first is that the money spent on public administration in Northeast Ohio from 1992 to 2002 grew 2.3 times faster than inflation, while the population has stood still. The second is that 38.3% of all government spending — $6.03 billion in 2002 — is spent on education. For more, see links below:

Denise San Antonio Zeman Will Sing Out for Rape Crisis Center
Foundation leader serves as Principal for a Day On April 8, dozens of community leaders, including Denise San Antonio Zeman, president and CEO of the Saint Luke’s Foundation, participated in a community engagement project that paired them with a school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. For the day, Ms. Zeman and others served as the school’s top administrator. The Principal for a Day witnessed the type of decisions that must be made to keep the school moving toward academic success. By the end of the day, Principals for a Day gained a greater appreciation of the excitement and challenge of educating students in Ohio’s largest school system. (added 4/8/2008)
