(3.24.16) On Friday, March 18, Saint Luke’s Foundation, along with Cleveland Neighborhood Progress and Neighborhood Connections, hosted the inaugural (and hopefully, the first of many) Saint Luke’s Pointe campus mixer. This midday event brought together individuals from the many vital organizations that reside at Saint Luke’s Pointe. The activities kicked off with a spirited round of Human Bingo – an icebreaker activity designed to acquaint participants with one another based on their responses to questions about their background and interests. Examples of bingo questions included: find someone who is an only child, who speaks a foreign language, or who is born the same month as you. From there, lunch was served, and afterward, a Marketplace circle dialogue ensued. In this activity, participants were given the opportunity to make a declaration or an offer to the Saint Luke’s Pointe Campus community, and others would respond with their own offers of assistance to their queries.

Here’s an example: The Principal at Harvey Rice mentioned that giving bikes as an incentive has improved attendance at her school, so she made a declaration for bicycles for her students. That declaration started a wave of donations from others in the Marketplace circle – a $150 donation here, a gently used bicycle there, another $150 donation, more bicycles. What began as a simple statement turned into something truly special – something that will change young lives.

The mixer was an extraordinary opportunity for this Campus community to deepen connections, to support one another and to strengthen the sense of community.
