Foundation’s Strong Communities grantee featured in The Plain Dealer’s Inside & Out section

(5/23/13) On May 18, The Healthy Eating & Active Living – Buckeye, Larchmere & Woodland Hills (HEAL) initiative, in conjunction with the Buckeye Shaker Square Development Corporation (BSSDC), planted 42 organic backyard gardens in a single day in Cleveland’s Buckeye, Larchmere and Woodland Hills neighborhood with the help of community partners and volunteers through the Buckeye Area Family Garden Initiative.

The initiative is spearheaded by the resident-led HEAL Initiative, a community partnership working to make healthy eating and active living a part of the culture and everyday living in the Buckeye, Larchmere and Woodland Hills neighborhoods. HEAL is made possible by Saint Luke’s Foundation in partnership with the Case Center for Reducing Health Disparities at the MetroHealth System.

The May 18 planting event was covered extensively by The Plain Dealer in its Thursday Inside & Out section. You can read Plain Dealer reporter Roxanne Washington’s article here.
